Questions
Short answers to the things everybody asks first.
Getting in
When can I play?
- The first playtest is coming soon. Everything that will be in it, from the seven classes to the three dungeons, is listed in the 0.1 release notes on the news page.
What is it?
- A modern take on Endless Online: an isometric world you walk around with other people in it, fighting, exploring, learning a trade and picking things up. It is built from scratch and it is not the original game, but it is meant to feel like the one you remember.
What does it cost?
- Nothing. There is no shop, no subscription and nothing to buy. There is no company behind it either, so nobody is trying to sell you anything.
Do I have to download anything?
- No. Press Play and it opens in the tab you are already in. If you would rather it opened without the browser around it, add it to your home screen or your desktop and it will run like an app.
Does it work on a phone?
- Yes, held sideways. A stick sits under one thumb and an attack button under the other, and the panels are laid out for a screen you hold rather than one you sit in front of. It is the same game, not a smaller version of it.
Do I need an account?
- Yes, and it takes a moment: a name, a password and an email address. The address is only ever used to get you back in if you forget the password.
Playing
Which class should I pick?
- You do not pick one. Whatever weapon you are holding decides what you are, and you start with one of each, so try them all. Swapping back later costs you nothing: every trade keeps its own level and its own skills while you are away from it.
What happens when I die?
- You come apart into your own pixels and wake up somewhere safe, still carrying everything you had on you. There is no penalty beyond the walk back.
How do I heal?
- Stay out of a fight for a few seconds and health and mana climb back on their own. Every blow you land or take restarts that, so backing off is the move.
Is my character saved?
- Yes, as you play. Close the tab in the middle of the street and your character will be standing there when you come back, with everything you were carrying.
Can I fight other players?
- Not at the moment. Everything you fight is something the world put there.
With other people
Can I play with my friends?
- Yes. Invite somebody and you have a party: their health shows over their head, and what you kill is shared. When there are more of you than a party holds, found a guild and talk to all of them at once.
Can I trade with other players?
- Yes. Stand next to them and open a trade: items and coin on the table, and both of you confirm. Change anything and both confirmations clear. Or post it to them from the mailman, and it waits until they next sign in.
Can I use the same character on my laptop and my phone?
- Yes. It is one account and one world, so sign in from wherever you are. You can only be in one place at a time, which is what you would expect.
The project
Is this the real Endless Online?
- No. It is an independent, non-commercial project inspired by it. Endless Online belongs to Vult-r and this is not affiliated with or endorsed by them.
Is it finished?
- No, and it is not pretending to be. Plenty of it works end to end and there is more arriving. What has landed recently and what is being worked on next are both on the updates page.
Something is broken. What do I do?
- When the game goes wrong it tells us about it on its own. If it is something you can see and it keeps happening, mention it to whoever is running the server you are playing on.
Still wondering?
The guides cover the first hour in more detail, and the game pages go through what there is to do once you are out of town.
