The game

What you can do

A pixel-art world you walk into from a browser tab: towns with people in them, roads out of every one, and a fight waiting somewhere along most of them.

Things to go and do

None of them is locked behind the others. Learn a trade on the way to a dungeon, chase a portal when one opens, or spend a week walking the coast road and never fight anything at all.

The character creator: a figure on the left updating as hair, colour and skin are chosen

Classes and skills

Dagger, greatsword, bow, wand, staff or sword and shield: whichever you pick up is what you are. Each one has its own ladder of skills to spend points on, from a blink and a fireball to a leap that lands with a stun on the end of it.

Meet the classes

The town of Aeven at nightfall, a street lamp throwing a pool of light onto the paving

The world

Towns, farms, caves and coastline, with the day turning over them and rain rolling across one map while the next stays dry. Every road leads to somewhere real.

Explore the world

A quest called Crows on the Roost tracked in the corner of the screen, with the town behind it

Quests and dungeons

Take a job from somebody who needs it, follow the trail, and get paid. Then take a few people underground and clear a floor that belongs to nobody but you.

Find something to do

A glowing portal open beside a road, with the words A portal opens beside you: A Rift in the Ground

Portals that open on their own

Now and then a portal tears open beside somebody, and anybody close enough has a minute to step through: a store-room nobody has opened in years, a rift full of something that came through, or a stranger waiting on the other side.

How portals work

The Equipment Upgrade window mid-roll: a Charge Dice tumbling over a Broken Bow

Push your gear to +10

Roll Charge Dice to raise a weapon or a piece of armour one level at a time. From +4 a weapon glows for everybody to see, elemental dice turn part of every blow into fire, water, thunder and more, and from +5 a bad roll can break it. And the same sword can turn up in five tiers, T5 to T1.

Upgrading your gear

The Aeven General Goods window: apples, bread and a health potion priced in gold beside an empty bag

Shops and the bank

Three shops in Aeven sell weapons, armour and something for a bad morning, all for gold. Bank Daddy keeps whatever your bags cannot, and your first drawer with him is free.

What the shops sell

A crowd of players in Aeven: armour, robes and every hair colour, one of them saying careful out east

Other people

Party up and share what you kill. Found a guild, name it, give it a crest and a rank ladder. Trade face to face, post a letter, and talk to the world, the street, your party or your guild.

Parties and guilds

The daily rewards window: a week of boxes, the first two claimed and ticked and the third ringed and ready

Daily rewards

Open your journal and claim a box a day from whatever run of rewards is on. Every box shows what is in it before you open it, and missing a day costs you nothing: the next box is still waiting when you come back.

How daily rewards work

Good to know before you start

Four things that decide how the first hour feels.

  • Dying costs you nothing you were carrying

You come apart into your own pixels and wake up somewhere safe with everything still on you.

  • You heal on your own

Stay clear of a fight for a few seconds and health and mana climb back by themselves. No potion required.

  • Things take up room

A bow is not the same size as a ring. Three bags, and a banker in town for whatever will not fit.

  • Your progress is kept for you

Close the tab in the middle of the street and your character will be standing there when you come back.
