Endless Worlds

An old world, rebuilt. Open a tab and walk into it.

Towns with people in them, roads that go somewhere, crows in the field and something worse under the chapel. Make a character, pick up a weapon, find out what you are good at. It plays in a browser and on a phone held sideways.

Your first five minutes

  1. 1

    Make a character

Pick a face, a hair style and a colour. It takes a minute.

  2. 2

    Pick up a weapon

Whatever is in your hands decides what you are. Change your mind whenever you like.

  3. 3

    Walk out of town

The road leads somewhere. So does every other one.

A world, not a lobby

Your character stays where you left them. So does everything you were carrying, everything you learned and everybody you met. Come back tomorrow and the town is still there, with the same people standing in it.

A character swinging at a goat, with a damage number floating over it

Fight for what you carry

Hold the attack key and the blow lands when the weapon is out, so anything quick enough to step aside gets away with it. What dies comes apart into its own pixels, and that includes you.

How fighting works

The character creator: a figure on the left updating as hair, colour and skin are chosen

Become something

There is no class screen. Pick up a dagger and you are a rogue, put it down for a staff and you are a mage. Every trade has its own skills to learn and its own level, and none of them is a decision you are stuck with.

Meet the classes

A quest called Crows on the Roost tracked in the corner of the screen, with the town behind it

Take a job from somebody

The woodcutter west of the gate has crows in his stack again. Ask a guard about it, go and do something about it, then walk back and say so. A trail of markers points the way if you want it.

Quests and dungeons

Inside the Flooded Cellar: a stone room with rats in it and two party members listed in the corner

Go underground

Get a few people together and take a floor that belongs to nobody else. Clear the room, take the stairs, and find out what the diggers stopped short of under the old chapel.

See what is down there

The Guild Hall window: level 30 and a 25,000 gold founding fee, a name of three to five letters and eight crests to choose from

Put your name on something

Found a guild at the guildmaster, name it, pick its crest and hand out ranks. Then talk to all of them at once, wherever in the world they happen to be standing.

Parties and guilds

A glowing portal open beside a road, with the words A portal opens beside you: A Rift in the Ground

Player events

Now and then a portal tears open beside somebody, and anybody close enough has a minute to step through. Clear a rift, meet a stranger or crack open a forgotten cache, and everybody who went in is paid in full.

How player events work

The town does not sit still

Whether you are watching or not.

The town of Aeven at nightfall, a street lamp throwing a pool of light onto the paving

Morning comes, the light goes long and gold, and then the street lamps come on one by one. Rain rolls in over one town while the next one along stays dry. Thunder arrives a moment after the flash, which tells you how far off it was.

Wade into the lake and you swim, head above the water, at a slower pace than the path you left. Sit down on the grass. Point at somebody. None of it is decoration you watch from a menu: it happens in the street you are standing in, and everybody there sees the same thing.
