Playing on your phone

Hold it sideways. Here is where everything is, and how to make it open like an app.

It is the same game on a phone. Not a companion app, not a cut-down version: the same world, the same character, the same everything, running in the browser you already have.

Hold it sideways. The world is wide and there is no portrait mode, because a tall thin slice of an isometric town is not worth playing.

The controls

  • Stick, bottom left. Push it the way you want to walk. It matches the arrow keys, not the screen, so north is north whatever you are holding.
  • Attack button, bottom right. Hold it down, the same as CTRL.
  • Tap something to look at it. Tap it again to act on it. One tap never does something you did not mean, which matters when your thumb is covering a third of the screen.
  • Hold your thumb on somebody to open their menu. That is the right click a touch screen does not have, and it works on people, on guards and on the guildmaster.
  • Pinch to zoom in and out. It stays where you put it next time you play.

The panels

Everything is where it is on a desktop, laid out for a screen you are holding rather than sitting in front of. Panels give up their decoration before they give up their contents, so the list you actually came for is the part that survives.

The action bar shows fewer slots at once and more pages of them. Nothing is missing: you have exactly as many skills bound as you would on a laptop, just spread across more pages. The set control beside the bar moves between them.

Make it open like an app

Add it to your home screen and it opens fullscreen, sideways, with no browser around it and no address bar eating your view. There is no store, no download and no install to sit through.

On iPhone that is Share, then Add to Home Screen. On Android it is the browser menu, then Install or Add to Home Screen.

One thing to expect

The world is on a server somewhere, so this needs a connection. There is no offline mode and there is not going to be one: a game that made up an answer while you were on the underground would be lying to you about where everybody else is.

If the signal drops you will need to sign back in, and your character will be standing exactly where you left them.

Next: getting started, if you have not made a character yet.
