Guide

Starting a guild

What it takes to found one, how ranks work, and what a guild actually gets you.

A party is for an afternoon. A guild is the name you put on a group of people who keep turning up.

What you need

  • A long road behind you. Level 30.
  • 25,000 gold. It is not returned if you later disband, so found one because you mean it.
  • Not already being in one. Leave the old one first.

Founding it

Guildmaster Sevrin stands on Aeven's main street, near the warden. Right click him and take the Guild Hall entry.

You give the guild a short name, between three and five letters, and pick one of eight crests to go with it. The name is yours for as long as the guild stands, so it is worth a minute's thought. Short names are the convention rather than a limitation: they are what everybody will be typing.

Bringing people in

Invite somebody by name from the guild panel, or type /ginvite and their name into chat. They see the invitation and decide. Nobody is added without saying yes.

A guild holds up to fifty people.

The three ranks

Can
LeaderEverything: invite, remove, set ranks, edit the guild, disband it
OfficerInvite, remove, and change the guild's details
MemberTurn up and be part of it

Two rules worth knowing before you start handing out ranks:

  • You cannot act on somebody at or above your own rank. Officers cannot remove each other.
  • Promoting somebody to Leader hands them the guild. You become an officer in the same moment. There is exactly one leader, always, and this is the only way that changes.

What it gets you

A channel of your own. Everybody wearing the crest can talk to everybody else at once, wherever in the world they are standing, without anyone having to be on the same map or in the same party.

Your guild also shows on your profile, so anybody who right clicks you can see who you run with.

If it does not work out

The leader can disband it. The name goes back into the world and the 25,000 gold does not come back, which is why it is worth deciding properly the first time.

Next: parties, guilds and the four ways to talk.
